For the 5th year in a row, the ZAC Foundation is partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis to host a four-day water safety camp July 8-11 for St. Louis children and families. The award-winning camp is bringing life -saving water safety skills to a new batch of more than 100 five to nine-year-olds teaching the importance of water safety through swimming classes, classroom curriculum, and various hands-on activities, including engagement with First Responders.

Nearly 15,000 kids across the country have participated in the camps in recent years. Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1-4 and the second leading cause of death for children under the age of 14, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Karen and Brian Cohn founded The ZAC Foundation in 2008 after their son Zachary was entrapped in the suction of a swimming pool drain. The ZAC Foundation is devoted to educating the public of the importance of water safety to prepare children and their families for a lifetime of safety, and has partnered with BGCA to bring ZAC Camps to Clubs nationwide.

This morning the camp kicked off with special guests STLMP Chief John Hayden and ZAC Foundation Executive Director, Megan Ferraro.
