February 2015 – Eagle of the Month
Anthony N., age 9, is a third grade student at Jefferson Elementary and this is his first year with our MSL program. At the start of the year. Anthony avoided reading until he met his mentor – Thomas M. Thomas who encourages his mentee to read 15 minutes each night and to complete a few comprehension activities to make sure he has understood the stories. Anthony says that he is thankful to have a mentor who always expects his best. Anthony is now reading more than one book each night and his teachers are impressed with his growth. In the meantime, Anthony has stated that he wants to share his love for reading to younger classmates.
