Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis has partnered with MoCaFi for the On Our Block: St. Louis Investment Program to provide an exciting opportunity for rising 8th-grade students in the Greater St. Louis Area. Applications are now open for 300 students to receive $5,000 investment accounts aimed at securing their financial futures.
When the beneficiaries turn 18, they will be able to withdraw their share of the total value of the investment fund and use it for the following purposes:
– Tuition for college, university, or vocational training
– A down payment on a home
– Starting or purchasing a small business
– Opening a retirement savings account
MoCaFi, founded by Wole Coaxum in 2014 in response to the Ferguson protests and the tragic shooting death of Michael Brown, aims to address social inequities by closing the racial wealth gap. Today, MoCaFi is innovating banking to serve the 50 million unbanked and underbanked Americans.
Brandon Williams, President and CEO of BGCSTL, stated, “We are pleased to collaborate with MoCaFi to provide our youth with a strong financial foundation. Equally important is educating teens about wealth building. One of the key components of BGCSTL programming is financial literacy, getting our Club member’s future ready.”
In addition to receiving the investment account, selected students will also benefit from free financial planning services to help them make informed decisions about their futures. There is no cost to apply. If your child will be in 8th grade in the upcoming school year (2025/2026), don’t miss this opportunity.
