Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) members got an up-close look at the world of NASCAR on Sunday, Sept. 13, during a special experience at World Wide Technology Raceway.
Club members stepped onto the track, met and took photos with race car drivers, and heard from engineers about the technology, teamwork and expertise that help make the cars go.
For the young people, the experience offered more than an exciting day at the racetrack. It provided a firsthand look at the wide range of careers connected to motorsports — from engineering and technology to the professionals behind the wheel.
“Experiences like this allow our young people to see possibilities they may not have considered before,” said Brandon Williams, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis. “When young people have an opportunity to meet professionals, ask questions and see different careers firsthand, it can spark an interest that helps shape their future.”
BGCSTL is committed to connecting young people with experiences that help them discover their passions, expand their horizons and envision new possibilities for their futures. Through a national partnership with NASCAR, BGCSTL Club members are given unique opportunities each year to experience race day up close, with different youth participating in memorable, behind-the-scenes experiences.
For Club members, the NASCAR experience was truly an opportunity of a lifetime. And who knows? One day, a BGCSTL Club member could be designing the next generation of race cars — or sitting behind the wheel.
